An Ageless Brain with Dr. Dale Bredesen
Is the ageless brain possible? A NYT-bestselling author Dr. Dale Bredesen says it is…and he has a protocol to make it happen. On a recentepisodeofCauses or Cures,Dr. Bredesen joined me to explore insights into brain holistic health and long-term vitality. He is author ofThe Ageless Brainand makes the case for it on the podcast. Specifically, Dr. Bredesen explains why he believes cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of aging and outlines six biological processes he identifies as impacting brain aging. He also shares practical tools he recommends for assessing how well your mind is functioning. We discuss the alarming rise in early-onset dementia among people in their 30s and 40s and the potential causes behind this increase. Dr. Bredesen also talks about the links between COVID, sugar intake, and dementia risk. He offers science-based advice on nutritional approach, restorative sleep, and mindful lifestyle strategies that aid an ageless brain. Additionally, Dr. Bredesen addresses how the for-profit healthcare system can hinder Alzheimer’s management and shares his comprehensive ReCODE Protocol™, which he presents as a promising approach to preventing and potentially reversing cognitive decline, though it has sparked passionate discussions and differing opinions in the Alzheimer’s and broader medical communities. Dr. Bredesen has his critics, as outlined in this recentNYT pieceaccusing him of creating false hope. Honestly, I thought the NYT piece was not entirely fair, considering that most of the mainstream Alzheimer drugs are approved under the FDA’s accelerated approval process and most times, not shown to have a significant clinical health benefit. In the introduction of this episode, I explain why I felt the Times was not fair to Dr. Bredesen. (I also thought it was a low blow that the author referred to him as “Mr.” instead of “Dr.” He is a doctor, so that…wasn’t cool.) I don’t endorse or not endorse Dr. Bredesen’s program. My goal was to read his new bookThe Ageless Brainand discuss it on the podcast. My advice is to listen to the podcast, read his book, discuss with your trusted medical and well-being experts, and make up your own mind.
